PERSONALITY
Jin is a little shit.
To be fair, Jin has lived a fairly long time, and the mild superiority complex born of his birthright and upbringing has only grown in certain aspects. Although he grew up quite insecure and unsure of his place in the world, Jin has come a long way being the thin, wiry child who wasn't quite the shining star his brother was. But with each passing year, those memories seem to fade a little more and while there are still times when the uncertainty creep in, he has long since learned to mask his thoughts and feelings from the world with the devil may care attitude and a well-placed grin.
Few would know that under the silk and glitter, Jin is a veteran of war and has quite a strong distaste for the art of war that often seems at odd with his occasional murder hobo ventures with his brother. Truth is, war is a game of numbers that few benefit from but a well deserved death can be justifiable if not honorable in some regards. Some people just deserve to die. He doesn't like to talk about it much, even though he did not see much bloodshed throughout that time. In some ways, being witness to the results and consequence of the war without actually being part of the frontlines is worse.
These days, he prefers to stay behind computer screens and the anonymity of the interwebs. Often joking that he was born too early and vampirism was the only way to catch up, Jin has very much adapted to the modern age like a fish to water. A true technophile who was there from the beginning, this is a vampire who will show you his keyboard collection with custom switches, RGB pulse towers, 8-bit sync wave art displays and more. Do not ask him how to enhance your shitty 480p home videos or fix your full hard drive.

VAMPIRE
Jin is a vampire, and with that comes all the joys and pains of being one. At this point in his unlife, it is not quite as terrible as it once was. Speed, agility, freaky senses, minor hypnotism and immortality are fantastic thanks. The blood and sunlight part not so much, but hey, the night is young. As long as you don't bring crosses, stakes and such like, he won't complain too much.
GUNFIGHTAlthough Jin is decent with a traditional sword, he is better with firearms, having trained with rifles during his time in the military, particularly the Murata rifle. He is not a sniper or expert marksman however. These days with the rapid modernization of weaponry, he has since grown fonder of sidearms for their size and handling.LANGUAGES
Jin is proficient in Japanese, English, Mandarin (Chinese Traditional & Simplified) & Russian, with a smidgen of French and German. He is also good at Python, Java(script), Swift (yuck), PHP, C#, Rust, and HTML/CSS, if you count those as languages.
BACKSTORY
Kentaro and Kenjiro were born a minute apart, the first and second sons to an decorated consul under the Meiji Restoration. A nobleman and low-ranking courtier of Emperor Meiji, Saigō was a military man with a strong background in diplomatic relations. He spent years abroad in various stages of his career, taking part in diplomatic voyages and missions to the United Kingdoms, Europe and the Americas.
Growing up under the shadow of Saigō, the boys were regaled from an early age about the honor and duties of their birthright. The importance of a good education. Respect and Power. As can be expected of the children of a fairly prominent noble and diplomat, the twins were raised with great privilege and even greater expectations. The twins spent their younger lives participating in both the scholarly pursuits and the martial arts, although Jin had always excelled in academics rather than the latter.
After the Iwakura Mission of 1872, the family followed their father to London and settling down as part of the Japanese embassy. There, the twins were exposed to even broader horizons with a new curriculum to add to their repertoire. Eventually they completed their formal education and the brothers parted way for the first time as Ken pursued a different path. Jin stayed behind in London with their Saigō, earning quite a reputation before being sent home to Japan in an effort to dissuade him from his more hedonistic tendencies.
Jin was sent enlisted into the military and served in an analytical capacity, working with translations and the occasional code-breaking. It was a glorified desk job meant to keep him out of trouble. One that he would have no doubt have been in for the rest of his mortal life even when he somehow managed to be nearly killed in a bombing attempt of his military branch.
The near death experience was enough to bring the twins back together as Jin recuperated in their ancestral home. Jin maintains that it was not his fault that he nearly died, no matter what Ken says. He had no control over rebels deciding to bomb him. The decision to return to active duty was not up for debate unfortunately as a night of drunken tomfoolery led to a wonderful night with an equally wonderful young lady, and an encounter with her less than wonderful beloved.
The little mistake turned out to be a turning both in the brothers' lives as the scorned man was from their rival clan (or was it on purpose?) and the offense was met with a vengeance unlike no other. Repaying the slight in kind, they took something that Jin cared about too: Ken. They did not kill him however, choosing instead to turn him into a kyuuketsuki, one of the undead creatures of the night to live forever as a living memory of Jin's shame.
Two weeks passed before Ken finally confess what had happened, marking as well the worst fight the two brothers ever had. It took a handful of threats and debates before Jin managed to convince his brother let them share the burden. Figuring out vampirism on their own took some time, having no Sire to guide them. Tracking their Sire down and plotting their revenge took even longer. The clan rivalry only intensified and turned into an all-out clan war that would last decades. Unfortunately there is only so much a human clan can do against another that had dealings with the supernatural, and it wasn't long before the twins were the last of their family.
Resigned to being creatures of the night severely impacted their career choices and ways of livings. There were only so many options and unsurprisingly, the two fell into the unsavory life of organized crime, taking on contracts that would pay for the cost of living in clandestine: the right skillsets for the right jobs. They traveled extensively later when they learned that staying in the same place for too long was a surefire way of being exposed for what they were, moving around as each opportunity arose. Russia was the first country they settled in extensively after leaving Japan, working for the infamous Romanovs. Ally would have been a strong word. The brothers were more like "independent contractors" even if the term didn't exist back then. Then came France, and eventually America.
A trip back to Japan in the 1960s awarded the brothers with an actual ally, a "sister" from their vampire Sire. Although they started off with a rocky start (see: she was tasked with their execution), the three came to an understanding and parted ways for the better. They would keep in touch, or rather Jin would, since Ken decided to be a stereotypical vampire who would not get with the times and learn to adapt in regards to technology and modern communication. Jin insisted on being in Silicon Valley by the time the Tech Boom was awarded its name, taking great delight in being a witness to history. The 80s were an absolute fucking trip and Jin has never been the same.
Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, and the brothers were found. Jin maintains through no fault of their own. He took every measure of precaution to ensure their safety and anonymity. Settling down in Locke Hollow made sense after that, hiding in plain sight in a vampire-friendly community for a couple decades was just the kind of lowkey vacation they needed. If only the damn Amazon couriers didn't keep misplacing his packages. What is the point of being a Prime member if they can't even find Locke Hollow?
